THE ELECTRIC STATE (2025)

“The Electric State” is a 2025 science fiction film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, now available for streaming on Netflix. Set in an alternate, retro-futuristic 1990s, the story follows Michelle, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, an orphaned teenager who embarks on a journey with a mysterious robot to find her missing brother. Along the way, they team up with a smuggler named Keats, played by Chris Pratt, and encounter various sentient robots in a society recovering from a failed robot uprising.

Despite its substantial budget of $320 million, making it Netflix’s most expensive production to date, the film has received predominantly negative reviews from critics. The Guardian described it as a “bogglingly expensive dud,” criticizing its lack of emotional depth and coherence.

In summary, while “The Electric State” offers a visually ambitious take on a retro-futuristic world and features a star-studded cast, it has struggled to resonate with critics and audiences, falling short of its high expectations.
