“Freaky Tales” is an upcoming film set to hit theaters on April 4, 2025. Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the movie is a vibrant homage to 1987 Oakland, weaving together multiple storylines that capture the city’s dynamic culture during that era. The ensemble cast features Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, and Tom Hanks. Notably, the film includes one of the final performances by the late Angus Cloud.

The narrative centers around a diverse array of characters, including an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a debt collector, all converging in a series of interconnected events. Pedro Pascal portrays a crook planning one last heist at the home of Golden State Warriors legend Eric “Sleepy” Floyd, played by Jay Ellis. Complications arise when Floyd unexpectedly returns home, leading to intense confrontations.

The film’s title pays tribute to the 1987 Oakland hip-hop track by Too Short, who also serves as an executive producer and makes a cameo appearance in the movie.
